Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced that the Crime Control Department (CCD) will be upgraded into Pakistan’s premier investigation agency. The move aims to modernize the department with advanced forensic capabilities, investigative expertise, machinery, and equipment, transforming it into one of the country’s most sophisticated law enforcement institutions.
According to an official statement, CCD will be provided with cutting-edge tools to track criminals and monitor their activities, while its operational scope will expand to address crime reduction and public safety. The department is being modeled after the world’s top five crime control agencies and will also feature a modern research center.

The Chief Minister has approved a state-of-the-art headquarters for CCD, along with offices, police stations, and residences in every division, district, and tehsil. A new law will also be enacted to curb illegal arms possession and strengthen enforcement measures.
Recent CCD initiatives have reportedly led to a significant drop in murders and crimes against women, while robberies have decreased by 77 percent. The department has also been tasked with addressing acid attacks on women, emphasizing its enhanced role in public protection.

Officials stated that the upgraded CCD will combine advanced investigative techniques with community-focused policing to ensure long-term crime reduction, improve law enforcement efficiency, and restore public confidence in Punjab’s safety measures.
