
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the government to prepare a comprehensive austerity and savings strategy in response to growing global economic pressures. He stressed that the plan must reduce financial strain on the public while ensuring stability in essential supplies across the country.
Chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore, the prime minister reviewed the national economic situation in light of ongoing regional tensions. Moreover, he instructed officials to submit clear and actionable proposals within 48 hours so that immediate steps can be taken to protect the economy.

The prime minister emphasized that the strategy should focus on public relief and responsible spending. In addition, he highlighted the importance of maintaining uninterrupted availability of petroleum products to avoid disruptions in transport, trade, and daily life amid rising international energy prices.
Previously, the government formed a special committee to assess the global economic impact of recent tensions and to develop a practical response plan. Officials reported that the committee is working to prevent shortages and ensure steady fuel supply, while also coordinating closely with relevant departments.

Furthermore, the prime minister directed the finance minister and petroleum minister to visit all four provinces and collaborate with provincial governments. The goal is to create a coordinated plan for conserving petroleum resources, improving distribution systems, and preventing any artificial shortages in the market.
Shehbaz Sharif also ordered strict action against any petrol pump or company involved in hoarding or creating artificial scarcity. He stated that such violations should result in immediate closure, reinforcing the government’s commitment to transparency, fair supply practices, and consumer protection.
