Pakistan senate unanimously condemns Afghan cross-border aggression

Published on: February 27, 2026 4:30 PM

Pakistan’s Senate on Friday unanimously condemned unprovoked cross-border aggression originating from Afghanistan, describing it as a violation of international law and diplomatic norms. The resolution, presented by Senator Sherry Rehman and adopted under Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, stressed Pakistan’s firm stance on defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Lawmakers emphasized that any hostile acts will be met with a proportionate and decisive response, reflecting the nation’s commitment to security and regional stability.

The resolution paid tribute to the bravery, professionalism, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement personnel, recognizing their vigilance in safeguarding the country’s borders amid heightened tensions. Senators highlighted the armed forces’ role in protecting citizens and maintaining peace, reinforcing public confidence in national defense mechanisms. The House also expressed solidarity with all state institutions responsible for countering threats from across the Afghan border.

Recalling Pakistan’s decades-long engagement with Afghanistan, the Senate noted the country’s significant humanitarian and economic contributions. Hosting millions of Afghan nationals, facilitating peace efforts, and advocating for Afghanistan’s stability have been undertaken at substantial cost to Pakistan’s own development and internal security. Lawmakers expressed regret over what they described as a lack of reciprocal goodwill from Afghan authorities, highlighting persistent hostile rhetoric and cross-border violations as troubling trends.

The resolution specifically demanded that the Afghan Taliban halt all aggressive acts, prevent use of Afghan territory for terrorism, and honor international commitments for peaceful coexistence. Senators emphasized that Pakistan remains committed to constructive engagement and regional peace, but warned that patience should not be misinterpreted as weakness or inability to respond effectively. The House stressed that defense of sovereignty remains non-negotiable while pursuing diplomatic solutions.

In addition, the Senate called on the international community to closely monitor developments and urge Afghan authorities to respect international norms. Lawmakers underscored the importance of global awareness to prevent further destabilization in the region. Pakistan’s unified parliamentary stance reinforces the message that territorial integrity and national honor are paramount priorities requiring both vigilance and decisive action when necessary.

Concluding the session, the Senate reaffirmed that it stands united beyond political divides in support of all measures to safeguard Pakistan’s sovereignty. The resolution reflects the country’s commitment to protecting its borders while maintaining readiness to act against any threats to national security. The adoption of this resolution comes amid rising tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, signaling a firm, united parliamentary position.
