Health emergency declared in Chaman after border escalation

Published on: February 27, 2026 2:10 PM

Authorities have declared a health emergency in District Chaman as tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border continue to intensify. The decision comes amid rising security concerns following recent cross-border hostilities and military operations in nearby areas. Officials say the move aims to strengthen emergency preparedness and ensure immediate medical response in case of casualties. The situation has placed local administration and health services on maximum alert.

According to the District Health Officer, authorities have cancelled all leave for health department employees and ordered them to report for duty without delay. Medical preparedness measures have been expanded across public hospitals and rural health centers throughout the district. Officials have directed staff to remain vigilant and prepared for any sudden influx of patients. The administration has emphasized discipline and round-the-clock readiness during this critical period.

Furthermore, all medical officers, paramedical staff, and supporting healthcare personnel have received instructions to ensure uninterrupted service delivery. Authorities have ordered hospitals to maintain sufficient stocks of essential medicines, surgical supplies, and emergency equipment. Ambulance services have also been placed on high alert to guarantee swift transportation of injured individuals if required. These coordinated steps aim to prevent chaos and maintain organized medical response.

The emergency declaration follows the launch of Operation Ghazab lil-Haq, initiated in response to what officials described as unprovoked aggression from across the border. Security sources report that Pakistani forces carried out retaliatory strikes targeting alleged militant hideouts. According to official figures, at least 133 militants have been killed and more than 200 injured during the operation so far. These developments have significantly escalated tensions in the border region.

Meanwhile, authorities continue to monitor the evolving situation closely as security forces remain on high alert. Local administration officials have urged residents to stay calm and cooperate with emergency directives. Analysts warn that sustained hostilities could strain civilian infrastructure if the conflict intensifies further. For now, Chaman’s health system stands mobilized to respond swiftly to any unfolding emergency.
