A high-level review meeting and video link conference was held at the Central Police Office Karachi under the chairmanship of Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar to assess the comprehensive security contingency plan formulated for the holy month of Ramadan. Upon arrival, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho received the minister. Addressing the meeting, the Home Minister emphasized providing maximum relief to the public during Ramadan and expressed displeasure over traffic issues, directing that citizens must not face any inconvenience during Sehri and Iftar hours. He instructed strict implementation of a comprehensive traffic management plan, deployment of additional personnel on major arteries, and indiscriminate action against illegal parking.
The Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed that district SSPs provide full support to the traffic police to ensure smooth flow of traffic around Iftar points, mosques, imambargahs, shrines, dargahs, and commercial centers. He also ordered strict checking at all entry points of Karachi, a crackdown against beggars and suspicious elements, increased snap checking, enhanced mobile patrolling, and acceleration of intelligence-based operations. He further directed that beggars be taken into custody and sent back to their native towns. He announced that surprise visits would be conducted to personally review security arrangements across the city. The minister instructed authorities to further strengthen CCTV monitoring under the command and control system and deploy additional personnel at sensitive locations, ensuring complete control over law and order under a zero-tolerance policy during Ramadan.
The Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed all officers to maintain peace and order across the province through coordinated strategy, effective inter-agency coordination, and professional utilization of resources, ensuring a peaceful environment for citizens throughout the blessed month of Ramadan. During the meeting, the IGP Sindh gave a detailed briefing on the priorities of the three Ashras of Ramadan, categorization of sensitive locations, personnel deployment, intelligence coordination, and the command and control mechanism. He informed that foolproof security measures are being ensured for Taraweeh prayers, Fridays, Youm-e-Quds, Youm-e-Shahadat Hazrat Ali (RA), Laylatul Qadr (odd nights), and Eid-ul-Fitr. He added that special focus has been placed on markets during the second Ashra due to increased public activity.
The meeting was attended in person by Additional IGs Karachi, Special Branch, Operations Sindh, Zonal DIGs, DIG Traffic, District SSPs Karachi, and AIG Operations, while DIG Hyderabad and concerned SSPs participated via video link, briefing the meeting on their respective district security strategies and priorities for Ramadan.
