Published on: February 18, 2026 8:20 PM

The Ramadan crescent moon has been sighted in Pakistan, officials announced on Tuesday. The decision means the first fast will be observed on February 19, 2026, across the country. Millions of Muslims will begin the holy month of Ramadan together.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting after a meeting in Peshawar chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad. He announced that verified testimonies were received from different regions of Pakistan. According to officials, the committee received 40 confirmed reports of moon sighting. Zonal committees also met in Islamabad and other provincial capitals to review evidence.

Experts from SUPARCO and the Meteorological Department also participated in the verification process. The committee examined scientific data along with eyewitness accounts before making the final decision.

Meanwhile, the chairman congratulated the nation on the arrival of Ramadan and urged people to observe the month with respect and unity. He emphasized national solidarity and called for prayers for Pakistan and the Muslim world. He also noted that religious scholars have declared suicide attacks and extremism forbidden.
