Politicisation of Imran’s health caused delay in check-up: Naqvi

Published on: February 18, 2026 1:39 AM

Mohsin-NaqviTerming the PTI campaign for medical treatment of party’s founder Imran Khan baseless propaganda, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday stated that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was invited to the Adiala jail so the Imran’s examination could take place in his presence but he did not show up.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, Naqvi said that they waited for an hour, but Barrister Gohar did not arrive. Later, PTI leaders and doctors received a 45-minute briefing and expressed satisfaction with the treatment.

“An impression was created that Imran Khan had lost 85% of his eyesight, even though the government had him examined by top public and private doctors, the interior minister said, adding that the PTI founder underwent a comprehensive check-up lasting over an hour, and the medical report is now part of the record, clarifying all details.

Naqvi added that the PTI founder’s personal physicians agreed they would have recommended the same course of action. He further noted that Imran was moved to a hospital for an eye injection as a precaution, though it could have been administered at the Adiala jail.

He asserted that all facilities provided to Imran are on record, and it is the government’s responsibility to provide medical care to every prisoner. He alleged that politics was played over the founder’s health, which caused a three-day delay in the check-up. He emphasised that the government does not wish to politicise the matter and that misleading the public is inappropriate.

He criticised attempts to use the innocent public for political gains and mentioned that disruptions were attempted in Islamabad’s Red Zone, with protests occurring outside Parliament House, Parliament Lodges, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House.

He suggested that if sensible advice had been followed, PTI would not be facing the current situation, though he clarified he could not comment on any “NRO” (deal). He reiterated that the PTI founder is receiving excellent food and facilities in jail.

Meanwhile, a detailed report, submitted by the Superintendent of Adiala Jail regarding the facilities provided to Imran Khan was presented before the Supreme Court for the first time.

According to the report, the PTI founder has been housed in a separate compound within the jail comprising seven cells. In front of the compound, there is a corridor measuring 57 feet in length and 14 feet in width. An adjoining lawn, measuring 35 by 37 feet, is also available where he spends time, reading books and newspapers and sitting in the sun.

The report stated that the seven-cell compound has the capacity to accommodate 30 to 35 prisoners; however, the PTI founder has been provided improved-class facilities in a secure environment.

Detailing the amenities, the report noted that a cycling machine and other gym equipment have been provided for exercise. Breakfast includes dates, walnuts, honey, coffee, porridge, Lassi, hot milk and chia seeds, along with seasonal juice and pomegranate juice.

Lunch consists of Desi chicken, mutton, mixed lentils, fried egg, salad, pickles and potato chips. In the evening, he is provided a shake made of almonds, raisins, coconut powder, milk, dates, banana and apple.

According to the report, the PTI founder has access to natural light and fresh air from morning until evening and is being kept in a fully secure environment within the jail.

Moreover, the Supreme Court has fixed multiple important cases relating to founder PTI for hearing today.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, and comprising Justice Salahuddin Panhwar and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, will hear the cases.
