Officials briefed the minister that Phase One of the jail project—pending since 2011—has reached over 85 percent completion and is expected to be functional within two months. The modern facility will feature dual security walls, a digital monitoring system, and a centralised control room.
During the inspection, Naqvi expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, emphasizing that establishing a state-of-the-art jail in the federal capital is vital for strengthening security. He directed authorities to expedite construction by operating double shifts.
The minister also toured the model room of a hostel being built for under-training Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) at the National Police Academy. He instructed officials to ensure high-standard accommodation, highlighting that improved infrastructure would enhance police training quality across the country.
Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi, Chief Commissioner Muhammad Ali Randhawa, FIA Director General Dr. Usman Anwar, and other senior officials attended the visit.

Responding to a media query about Imran Khan, Naqvi said any prisoner sentenced by a court in Islamabad would be lodged in a local facility. He added that modern model jails are being developed to provide inmates with essential healthcare and medical services under one roof, including eye care.
His comments follow reports that Imran Khan has lost approximately 85 percent of vision in his right eye, raising concerns about his health and the facilities provided for prisoners in the federal capital.
