ISLAMABAD – Pakistan and Cambodia have agreed to work toward establishing a Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) aimed at deepening commercial cooperation between the two countries, Cambodia’s Minister of Commerce Cham Nimul said on Tuesday.

During her visit to Pakistan, Cham Nimul focused on exploring new trade and investment opportunities through structured business-to-business linkages. She held meetings with Commerce Minister Jam Kamal Khan and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and engaged with local business communities at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI).

Speaking at ICCI, the Cambodian minister said the PTA would help translate strong trade potential into actionable outcomes. It would facilitate faster market access, streamline customs clearance procedures, and provide a clear pathway for Pakistani investments, particularly in support of Cambodia’s healthcare sector and regional competitiveness.

Cham Nimul also encouraged Pakistani entrepreneurs to consider investing in Cambodia’s Special Economic Zones, which offer incentives such as tax holidays, import duty exemptions, and simplified administrative services through the Council for the Development of Cambodia.

Highlighting sectors with strong export and manufacturing capabilities in Pakistan, she expressed interest in footwear, surgical instruments, and pharmaceuticals. These industries, she noted, meet internationally recognized quality standards and are ready for global trade, making them ideal for bilateral collaboration.

The discussions come amid growing efforts by both countries to strengthen economic ties and enhance trade volume. Officials from both sides indicated that further technical talks would follow to formalize the PTA framework, aiming to expand business opportunities, reduce trade barriers, and boost investment flows between Pakistan and Cambodia.
