Khichi assures Meera of goodwill ambassador role

Published on: February 11, 2026 2:50 AM

Federal Minister for National Heritage and Culture Division, Aurangzeb Khan Khichi has assured renowned actress Meera that she will be announced as a goodwill ambassador, following her request during a recent meeting at his office.

During the interaction, the minister praised Meera and film producer Salman Butt for their valuable contributions to Pakistani cinema and for promoting local films on international platforms.

He appreciated the growing global presence of Pakistani films and lauded Salman Butt’s initiative to produce films specifically for overseas Pakistanis, calling it a positive step towards reviving and globalising the national film industry.

Although the film sector falls under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Khichi said the Ministry of National Heritage and Culture would extend all possible support within its mandate to promote cinema as a tool of cultural expression.

He emphasized that such initiatives not only create opportunities for local talent but also strengthen Pakistan’s cultural image abroad. Highlighting the role of cultural diplomacy, the minister noted that cinema plays a key part in projecting the country’s soft image to the world.

Aurangzeb Khichi commended Meera for taking on meaningful and challenging roles, saying her continued association with new film projects reflects the resilience and evolving strength of Pakistani cinema.

He added that artists like Meera serve as cultural ambassadors for Pakistan through their creative work.

Reiterating his vision for the cultural sector, the minister stressed the need to promote films, music and storytelling as essential tools for preserving heritage. He encouraged greater investment in cinema, particularly by overseas Pakistani producers, and assured full government support for initiatives that showcase Pakistan’s culture globally.

The meeting also featured a discussion on the upcoming film “Psycho,” expected to be launched soon. Later, Secretary National Heritage and Culture Division Asad Rehman Gilani was briefed on the project and also praised Meera and Salman Butt for their efforts to boost the film industry.

Meera thanked the minister and secretary for their support and expressed hope that the Cultural Ministry would continue promoting Pakistani films at national and international levels.

Meanwhile, industry insiders have welcomed the minister’s remarks, terming them a morale boost for filmmakers and artists working to elevate Pakistani cinema on the global stage.
