
Russia remains open to cooperation with the United States. However, it sees little hope for improved economic relations. This stance persists despite US efforts to end the Ukraine war.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov shared these views in an interview on Monday. He spoke to Russia-based media outlet TV BRICS. Lavrov cited Washington’s stated goal of achieving economic dominance.

Lavrov said Russia does not see a bright future in economic cooperation. Previously, some Russian officials expressed optimism about restoring ties. They linked progress to a possible Ukraine peace settlement.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump has spoken about reviving economic cooperation with Moscow. He has also hosted President Vladimir Putin in the United States. However, Trump has imposed new sanctions on Russia’s key energy sector.

Lavrov also pointed to US hostility toward the BRICS bloc. He said Washington creates artificial obstacles to BRICS integration. Therefore, Russia is strengthening financial and economic cooperation with BRICS countries.
