A drone attack by Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces killed at least 24 people, including eight children, on Saturday. The attack hit a vehicle carrying displaced families in North Kordofan province. Doctors and aid groups warned it worsens the country’s growing humanitarian crisis.
The attack occurred near Rahad city, said the Sudan Doctors Network, which monitors conflict-related casualties. Families were fleeing fighting in the Dubeiker area. Among the dead children were two infants. The paramilitary strike highlights the ongoing toll of Sudan’s war, which erupted in April 2023 between the RSF and the Sudanese army.

UNICEF reported at least 20 Sudanese children died in January, mainly in Kordofan and Darfur regions. The agency warned millions of children need protection, medical care, and food aid. Famine is confirmed in Al Fasher in North Darfur and Kadugli in Kordofan, while nearly 20 more areas face severe food shortages.
The RSF controls most of western Darfur, except parts of North Darfur, while the Sudanese army holds major areas in the south, north, east, and central Sudan, including Khartoum. The fighting has displaced millions and caused thousands of deaths. Humanitarian groups continue to call for immediate protection of civilians and access to aid.
