ISLAMABAD: After nearly three months of restrictions, Bushra Bibi, wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was recently allowed to meet close relatives, including her daughter and sisters-in-law, authorities and sources confirmed. The meeting came with strict instructions that it not be used for political purposes.

According to sources, the meeting was facilitated through Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, who has previously been involved in backchannel efforts providing humanitarian and legal facilitation for Imran Khan and his family. Bushra Bibi had reportedly signalled willingness to explore any possible channels that could ease her circumstances, prompting the intervention.
Sources emphasized that no political discussion took place during the meeting. Relatives were explicitly instructed not to convey or receive political messages, and the conditions were reportedly fully adhered to.
While political matters were off-limits, Bushra Bibi did express personal grievances, lamenting that despite her and Imran Khan’s continued incarceration, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had not made meaningful efforts on their behalf. The complaint, however, remained confined to personal sentiment and did not translate into political messaging.
Observers view the meeting as a narrowly defined humanitarian facilitation rather than a political engagement. Sources suggested that, depending on prevailing conditions and continued compliance, similar limited family meetings may be allowed in the future.
By contrast, no similar relaxation appears imminent for Imran Khan. His last family visit, involving his sister, reportedly became controversial after statements attributed to him were later publicized, including remarks directly criticizing the Chief of Army Staff. Authorities said such communications were unacceptable, reinforcing the insistence that future meetings must strictly exclude political discussion.

The differing treatment of Bushra Bibi and Imran Khan highlights the authorities’ sensitivity to messaging from jail interactions and their determination to enforce conditions attached to any facilitated meetings.
