KP CM Sohail Afridi defends police amid 9 May pressure

Published on: February 6, 2026 5:45 PM

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi said police are facing pressure over the 9 May events, but the force has remained impartial. He expressed pride in their professionalism and warned that police should not be dragged into political disputes. Afridi stressed that the provincial government has kept KP police free from political interference.

Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Afridi criticized those applying pressure on the police, urging them to stop immediately. He said past decisions made in closed rooms caused serious losses, and wrong policies have prevented peace and stability in the province. He emphasized that KP police must be allowed to perform their duties without external influence.

Afridi highlighted the long history of KP police sacrifices, noting that officers have served and died over the past 22 years in combating terrorism and maintaining law and order. He said the police had been disrespected at times, but their commitment remains steadfast. He also said that requests from police had been fully supported by the provincial government.

He praised the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and Special Branch, calling them the “eyes and ears” of the province. Afridi said both units are being equipped with modern tools, technology, and facilities to enhance their efficiency. He added that the government is determined to strengthen security infrastructure and provide officers with all necessary support.
