
A federal judge has ordered the release of five-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos and his father, Adrian Conejo Arias, who were detained during a recent immigration raid in a Minneapolis suburb.
The boy, pictured in a viral photo wearing a blue bunny hat outside his home as federal agents stood nearby, was among four students taken by immigration officials earlier this month.

US District Judge Fred Biery criticized the government’s deportation practices, calling the pursuit of daily quotas “ill-conceived” and “traumatizing to children,” emphasizing that removals should follow orderly and humane procedures.
Liam and his father, both legal asylum applicants from Ecuador, had been sent to a family detention facility in Dilley, Texas, highlighting concerns about the treatment of children in immigration enforcement operations.

Judge Biery compared the administration’s actions to historical abuses cited in the US Declaration of Independence, warning that administrative warrants without proper judicial oversight violate constitutional protections.
The raid also detained two 17-year-olds and a 10-year-old, drawing criticism from school officials and legal experts who argued that the use of armed officers against children and families undermines basic human decency.
