Pakistan navy rescues Sri Lankan sailor far offshore

Published on: January 25, 2026 12:55 PM

The Pakistan Navy successfully carried out a medical evacuation of a Sri Lankan crew member from a merchant vessel located nearly 1,500 kilometres off the coast of Gwadar.
The emergency unfolded in open seas, highlighting the challenges of distance and weather, yet naval teams responded swiftly after receiving an international distress request.

Pakistan Navy Ships TABUK and MOAWIN successfully conducted a Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC) of a Sri Lankan national from the Indonesian-flagged merchant vessel GREY PALM, located approximately 800 nautical miles off Gwadar, following a request from the Sri Lankan (MRCC). The operation began after the Sri Lankan Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre sought urgent assistance for an ailing sailor aboard an Indonesian-flagged ship operating far offshore.
In response, the Pakistan Navy immediately activated its maritime rescue protocols and dispatched warships to reach the vessel without delay.

Naval ships PNS Tabuk and PNS Moawin navigated approximately 800 nautical miles to the reported location and safely transferred the patient during the complex sea operation.
The crew member was moved onboard PNS Tabuk, where medical staff provided immediate treatment to stabilize his condition.
