Ulema Council welcomes Trump's Gaza Peace Board invitation

The Pakistan Ulema Council on Sunday described the invitation extended by US President Donald Trump to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to join a proposed “peace board” for Palestine as a notable diplomatic achievement for Pakistan.

Council Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said the invitation reflected Pakistan’s sustained diplomatic engagement on the Palestinian question and underscored Islamabad’s longstanding support for Palestinian rights at global forums. He said the gesture was also indicative of the country’s expanding diplomatic footprint and growing involvement in regional and international matters.

According to Hafiz Ashrafi, Pakistan has consistently raised the Palestinian issue at multilateral platforms and with global leaders, and the development amounted to recognition of those efforts. He commended the manner in which the prime minister, alongside senior military leadership, presented Pakistan’s concerns and viewpoints before the United States and the international community.

The council chairman urged the prime minister to consider accepting the invitation and play a constructive role in advancing peace efforts, saying such engagement could benefit the wider Muslim world and contribute to easing the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip and other occupied Palestinian territories.

Hafiz Ashrafi added that the development reinforced Pakistan’s relevance in ongoing diplomatic initiatives concerning the Middle East and would further enhance the country’s international standing. He maintained that Pakistan’s participation in peace efforts would be positively viewed across the Muslim world and could strengthen its diplomatic channels in the broader region.
