Action continues against vehicles without M-Tags

Published on: January 19, 2026 1:40 AM

The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration has continued action against vehicles without M-Tags, reporting that 166,888 vehicles have been issued tags so far, including 3,130 in the last 24 hours, as checkpoints, readers, and service centers remain active across the city.

According to the spokesman of ICT administration, action against vehicles without M-Tags is ongoing in the federal capital.

Officials have activated readers at checkpoints across Islamabad to identify vehicles that are still without tags. Vehicles found without M-Tags are being stopped at different points, according to the Excise Department.

At the same time, the process of installing M-Tags is continuing at 17 booth points set up in various areas of the city. These booths are working to facilitate vehicle owners who have not yet obtained the tag. Authorities said the system is aimed at ensuring wider coverage and smooth monitoring on city roads.

The Excise Department confirmed that a total of 166,888 vehicles have successfully been issued M-Tags so far. During the past 24 hours alone, 3,130 vehicles received M-Tags, showing an increase in daily registrations as enforcement continues.

Special arrangements have been made to extend service hours at key locations. According to Director General Excise Irfan Memon, the M-Tag centers at 26 Number Chungi and 18 Meel are providing services round the clock. These centers are operating on a 24/7 basis to reduce waiting time and help citizens complete the process at any hour.

In addition, M-Tag counters at Kachnar Park and F-9 Park are offering services until 12 midnight. The extended hours are intended to assist people who are unable to visit centers during regular daytime hours.

Officials said that enforcement teams are stopping vehicles without M-Tags at different checkpoints across the city. The checks are being carried out to ensure compliance with the M-Tag requirement and to encourage vehicle owners to register without delay.

The Excise Department has appealed to citizens to get M-Tags installed as soon as possible to avoid legal issues. Officials stated that timely registration will help motorists continue their travel without interruptions at checkpoints.

Authorities reiterated that readers installed at checkpoints are fully operational and are being used to identify vehicles without tags. The department added that enforcement and facilitation are being carried out side by side to ensure that citizens are provided access to services while rules are implemented.

The department maintained that the M-Tag system is being enforced across the city and that operations will continue until full compliance is achieved. Citizens were again urged to visit the nearest booth or service center to complete the process and avoid penalties during roadside checks.
