Pakistani authorities have intercepted a large cache of ammunition and magazines being smuggled from Afghanistan, sources at the Torkham border confirmed. According to officials, the weapons were seized from a truck, and both the vehicle and its driver have been taken into custody for further investigation. The operation was carried out by the Pakistan Customs House at Torkham, under the supervision of Customs Collector Apprizment and Additional Collector Amir Hamza Cheema, acting on a tip-off. Authorities said the interception not only prevented a major arms smuggling attempt, but also foiled a potential large-scale terrorist operation within Pakistan. Security sources noted that following the withdrawal of US and NATO forces from Afghanistan, billions of dollars’ worth of military equipment were left behind, some of which is believed to be used by the banned militant group Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) against Pakistani security forces. Both the United Nations and US officials have identified TTP as a significant regional security threat, posing dangers to Pakistan and neighbouring countries.
