The woman, identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, was reportedly struck at close range as she tried to drive away from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, who said her vehicle was blocking their path. Video footage of the incident shows a masked ICE agent firing three times into Good’s Honda SUV, which then lost control and collided with stationary vehicles. Onlookers shouted at the officers as the vehicle came to a halt with Good slumped inside.

The Trump administration described the shooting as a defensive response, claiming Good had tried to “weaponise her vehicle” against federal agents. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey dismissed this assertion, calling it “bullsh**” and demanding that ICE operations leave the city.
Thousands of protesters marched through the city in freezing conditions, carrying signs reading “ICE out of MPLS.” Local authorities criticized the federal response and warned of insufficient training for new ICE recruits, following the administration’s push to add 10,000 officers nationwide.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz described the federal narrative as “propaganda” and pledged a “full, fair, and expeditious investigation” into the incident. Witnesses recounted chaotic scenes, with one noting that a doctor was blocked from reaching the victim immediately after the shooting. Good’s family said she had no involvement in any confrontation with ICE. Her mother, Donna Ganger, told local media that her daughter “was probably terrified” and had not posed a threat to the officers.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions over immigration enforcement under the Trump administration, which has expanded ICE operations nationwide. Similar deadly encounters have occurred in other cities, including Chicago last September, where an ICE officer shot an undocumented man during an attempted detention.
