Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved the establishment of six biogas plants across the province, aiming to promote clean energy, reduce environmental pollution, and support sustainable development initiatives.
During a high-level meeting on clean energy in Lahore, she also sanctioned a waste-to-energy project designed to supply affordable electricity to public transport, including metro buses and electric buses in the city.

In addition, Maryam Nawaz approved three pilot biogas plant projects under the Model Village Programme, emphasizing the integration of renewable energy into local communities and supporting small-scale sustainable energy solutions.
The Chief Minister directed officials to develop viable plans for smaller biogas plants, highlighting Punjab’s leadership in the clean energy sector and encouraging innovation in eco-friendly technology implementation.

She stressed that biogas plants would generate bio-fertilizer for agriculture, provide affordable gas for domestic use, and strengthen the province’s overall energy security while addressing environmental challenges.
Officials noted that the waste-to-energy project would convert municipal waste into electricity, reduce reliance on conventional power sources, and demonstrate the potential of renewable energy in urban transport infrastructure.
