Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Stewart clarified that her interest in a remake does not stem from dissatisfaction with the original films. She praised directors Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz, acknowledging the effort and individuality they brought to the franchise during its formative years.
“I love what Catherine did, I love what Chris did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” Stewart said. She added that the filmmakers worked in a unique creative moment, before the series became a massive global phenomenon with intense expectations.
Stewart suggested that a new adaptation could benefit from greater resources and creative freedom. She said imagining the story with a “huge budget” and strong backing excites her, even though she has not yet worked out the practical details of such a project.
