Postmortem confirms school headmaster died from torture in police custody

Published on: January 5, 2026 6:41 PM

The postmortem report of school headmaster Jam Aziz Jakhro has confirmed that he died due to physical torture while in police custody in Shahdadpur, Sanghar district. Authorities reported visible torture marks on his body, including severe injuries on his legs.

Jam Aziz Jakhro, who served as a school headmaster, died in police custody on November 11, 2025. Following his death, an FIR was registered against four policemen, including SHO Ghulam Shabbir Dalwani. Dalwani, who had initially secured interim bail, went absconding after the court cancelled his bail.

An FIR filed with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) by the deceased’s brothers named SHO Dalwani and constables Gul Muhammad Zardari, Ali Lakho, Rafique Ahmed Ujjan, Muharram Ali Zardari, and Amanullah. The complaint stated that medical examinations confirmed that Jakhro sustained deliberate and sustained injuries, which proved fatal during his detention.

The incident has been classified as custodial killing, violating constitutional protections and statutory safeguards under the Torture and Custodial Death (Prevention and Punishment) Act, 2022. Following the FIR, the FIA took over the investigation on the directions of the Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate II.

Authorities and human rights observers have raised serious concerns over custodial practices and accountability in the Sanghar district police. The investigation continues as law enforcement seeks to locate the absconding SHO and gather evidence against all accused personnel.
