
KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has approved a comprehensive Rs4.2 billion uplift and beautification plan to rehabilitate four major road corridors, aiming to improve traffic flow, urban aesthetics and overall infrastructure in the metropolis.
The plan was finalised during a meeting at the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office, where the mayor directed officials to fast-track tendering and execution of the projects on an emergency basis.

Under the approved scheme, Rashid Minhas Road, S.M. Taufiq Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road and Pehalwan Goth Road will undergo extensive rehabilitation. The KMC has allocated Rs1.9bn for Pehalwan Goth Road, Rs1.12bn for Rashid Minhas Road, Rs574m for Sir Shah Suleman Road and Rs429m for S.M. Taufiq Road.
A KMC spokesperson said the initiative focuses on sustainable infrastructure development, improved traffic management and creating a greener urban environment. The upgraded corridors will include resolution of sewerage issues, development of green belts, better lane markings and traffic-friendly designs to ensure smoother connectivity.
Briefing the meeting, KMC Financial Adviser Gulzar Abro confirmed that all development schemes had been finalised and funds allocated to restore the city’s key arteries and enhance their visual and functional appeal.
Addressing the meeting, Mayor Wahab stressed the need for rapid transformation, saying Karachi deserved modern and efficient infrastructure. He said the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership and the Sindh government were fully committed to supporting KMC in the city’s revival.
Separately, the mayor inaugurated the Raheem Bux Soomro Road and other development projects worth Rs104m in Gulzar-i-Hijri, Scheme 33. He said Pehalwan Goth Road was being developed as an alternative route to ease congestion on Sharea Faisal and nearby junctions.

Mr Wahab also announced that work on Jahangir Road would begin shortly and be completed within two months, while the Baloch Colony Expressway would be completed by January 31. He said the Karimabad Underpass would be opened to traffic in the first week of February.
