Published on: January 1, 2026 5:00 PM

New Year celebrations in Karachi turned chaotic as at least 25 people, including women and children, were injured by stray bullets fired into the air. Rescue officials reported that victims kept arriving at hospitals late into Wednesday night. Police launched a citywide crackdown, arresting 59 people and recovering illegal weapons.

Gunfire was reported across multiple neighbourhoods, including Korangi, Lyari, Liaquatabad, Gulshan-e-Hijri, North Nazimabad, Garden, Tariq Road, and Landhi. Most victims were hit while at home or on the streets, highlighting the dangers of celebratory firing. Rescue teams rushed the injured to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, and Civil Hospital for treatment.
