Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s vision of changing the police station culture in Punjab could not be made real, as police attitude towards the public remained worse than last year, with more than 5,000 complaints registered in the IG Complaint Cell.
According to police statistics, more than 150,000 complaints have been registered in the Central Police Office Lahore IG Complaint Cell regarding non-registration of FIRs, poor investigation, bribery and corruption. Last year, 145,000 complaints were registered by the public. This year, 66,000 complaints have been registered regarding non-registration of FIRs.
The IG Complaints Cell registered 12,930 FIRs on citizen complaints, 41,000 for partial investigation. 83 complaints were registered regarding poor police services, 24,000 complaints were registered regarding bribery by the police, abuse of power and corruption, and 12 complaints were registered against higher police officers by the police employees themselves.
134,000 complaints received by the IG Complaints Cell have been resolved, while the rest are still pending in various offices.
