
Pakistan, along with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and several Muslim nations, strongly rejected Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, calling it a serious threat to international peace and security.
The joint statement, backed by Saudi Arabia, Turkiye, Iran, Egypt, and Qatar, emphasized that Israel’s unprecedented move reflects blatant disregard for international law and undermines regional stability in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea.

Tel Aviv became the first country to formally recognize the self-declared Republic of Somaliland as an independent state. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to cooperate with Somaliland in agriculture, health, technology, and economic sectors.
Netanyahu also invited Somaliland’s president, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi, to visit Israel, framing the recognition as part of the Abraham Accords initiative, aimed at fostering regional cooperation and peace in the Middle East.

In response, the OIC and allied nations highlighted that such recognition violates the principles of the United Nations Charter, endangers Somalia’s territorial integrity, and sets a dangerous precedent for the sovereignty of other states.
The statement further condemned any attempt to link Israel’s move with efforts to expel Palestinians, stressing that forcibly displacing Palestinians remains unacceptable and must be rejected as a matter of principle.
