The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast the first rainfall of the winter season in Karachi, expected on December 30, as a westerly weather system moves across the country.
According to the Met Office, a system of westerly winds is likely to influence Karachi’s weather on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing light rain to the city. The department said the rainfall would mark the first winter precipitation for the port city this season.

The Met Office added that temperatures in Karachi could drop following the rainfall, increasing the intensity of cold conditions. Residents may experience cooler nights and mornings as the system passes through the region.
The broader weather pattern is linked to a westerly wave expected to enter the upper parts of the country on December 28. Under the influence of this system, rainfall is forecast in various areas of Balochistan on December 29, with some central and southern districts expected to see partly cloudy skies.
The PMD said that most parts of the country are likely to remain cold and dry during the period, while northern areas may experience partly cloudy weather. The westerly wave is also expected to affect temperatures in several regions, particularly during nighttime hours.
In addition, the Met Office warned that fog is likely to persist during morning and night hours in the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh. This could disrupt road and air travel in affected areas, especially during early hours.

The forecast comes as much of the country experiences typical winter conditions, with dry weather prevailing in many regions. The expected rain in Karachi is likely to bring some relief from dry conditions, while also contributing to a further dip in temperatures.
Authorities have advised citizens to stay informed about changing weather conditions and take necessary precautions, particularly in areas prone to fog or colder temperatures during the ongoing winter season.
