Denmark strongly opposed the U.S. ambitions, with Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenland Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen stating in a joint declaration, “You cannot annex another country. The U.S. shall not take over Greenland under any argument.”
Nielsen further reinforced Greenland’s autonomy in a Facebook post, asserting that the island will determine its own future. The diplomatic tension highlights the ongoing debate over Arctic security, sovereignty, and global strategic interests in the region.
