PRA president praises Punjab rugby’s medal-winning display at National Games

Published on: December 22, 2025 9:09 PM

LAHORE (December 22, 2025): Punjab Rugby Association (PRA) President Mohsin Iqbal Khan has lauded the outstanding performance of Punjab’s men’s and women’s rugby teams at the 35th National Games in Karachi, where both sides delivered strong displays to return home with medals, reinforcing the province’s rising stature in national rugby.

Competing under the PRA banner, the Punjab Women’s Rugby Team produced a dominant campaign to secure the silver medal, while the Punjab men’s rugby team claimed bronze, marking a successful outing for the province in both categories.

The women’s team showcased remarkable discipline and defensive solidity throughout the tournament. They topped their pool with commanding victories over Balochistan (29–0) and Sindh (12–0), before dismantling Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 24–0 in the semi-final to book a place in the final. Their consistent performances earned them a well-deserved silver medal and widespread praise.

The men’s team also impressed with their physicality and tactical execution. Punjab opened their campaign with a resounding 32–0 win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, followed by a hard-fought 17–14 victory against IRA in the pool stage. They sealed their medal run by defeating Police 29–0 in the third-place match to secure bronze.

These achievements reflect the strong leadership of Punjab Rugby Association President and his entire team, which continues to elevate rugby’s profile in the province. Head Coach Abdul Muqeet played a pivotal role in the teams’ preparation, ensuring tactical readiness and peak fitness for the national stage. Significant support from the Sports Board Punjab and Punjab Olympic Association also proved crucial, with world-class training camps, logistical backing and professional staff enabling players to perform at their best.

Further credit goes to PRA Secretary Tariq Niazi, Treasurer Salman Ahmed, and Vice President Professor Muzammal Khan Wazeeri for their strategic guidance and administrative support. Special appreciation was extended to DG Sports & Youth Affairs Punjab Khizar Afzaal Chaudhry for his continued commitment to youth development and sports excellence. The Pakistan Rugby Union (PRU) was also praised for its efficient organization of the tournament, providing a competitive and professionally managed platform for all teams.
