
SAHIWAL: A young woman from Tandlianwala was allegedly gang-raped in Sahiwal by a social media acquaintance and his accomplice, after being lured under the pretext of a job opportunity. The victim, a resident of Bherwana village, had developed an online friendship with a Sahiwal-based social media influencer who promised her employment through political connections.

The woman was invited to Sahiwal for a meeting on Thursday evening. Upon her arrival, the accused reportedly picked her up in a car and took her to a house, where she was served a soft drink allegedly spiked with intoxicants. She was then subjected to sexual assault by the accused and his accomplice.
The following morning, the woman was dropped at the General Bus Stand and allegedly threatened with severe consequences if she disclosed the incident. Despite the intimidation, she later approached the police and lodged a formal complaint.
Authorities at Ghala Mandi police station have registered a case under relevant sections of the law. The accused are currently at large, and an investigation is underway to identify and apprehend them.

The incident highlights the dangers posed by online interactions and the exploitation of vulnerable individuals seeking employment. Local activists have called for stricter monitoring of social media platforms and more robust protective measures for women.
Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour immediately. They also assured the victim of protection and the swift pursuit of justice in accordance with the law.
