UoG VC for expansive, impact‑driven research culture

Published on: December 16, 2025 5:21 PM

GUJRAT — Expanding the scope of university‑based research is essential for delivering lasting service to knowledge and society, said Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Zahoor‑ul‑Haq, recipient of the prestigious Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, while chairing the 25th meeting of the Advanced Studies & Research Board (AS&RB) at the University of Gujrat on Monday.
He emphasized that rigorous data collection and modern analytical approaches are vital for producing meaningful, high‑quality research outcomes that address contemporary challenges.
Registrar Muhammad Naeem Butt and Deputy Registrar AS&RB Sarwat Khurshid assisted in conducting the meeting. PhD scholars appeared in person to present the significance, relevance and societal value of their proposed research topics.
Prof. Dr Zahoor‑ul‑Haq noted that the foremost purpose of scientific and social research is to generate knowledge that contributes to industrial, agricultural and social development. He stressed that credible research emerging from universities must be commercialized through industry linkages to create collective benefits and practical ease for society. He urged scholars to move beyond outdated themes and focus on real‑world issues that demand innovative, problem‑solving inquiry.
He added that the current education system requires urgent reforms to strengthen practical and inventive dimensions of learning. Research scholars, he said, should exercise diligence and consultation when selecting topics, ensuring that their work responds directly to the pressing needs of the present era.
The VC reiterated that the AS&RB plays a central role in shaping the strategy for advanced academic programmes — MS, LLM, MPhil and PhD — by reviewing ongoing research activities, approving and revising research proposals, and guiding students to enhance the quality and breadth of their scholarly work.
The meeting approved the recommendations and agenda items carried forward from the 24th session. Members held detailed discussions on MPhil and PhD programmes across various departments, offering constructive suggestions for further improvement. Faculty deans, senior professors, AS&RB members from affiliated colleges and other academic representatives participated in the session.
