The district administration renewed the restrictions in view of the prevailing security situation.
The Deputy Commissioner had initially imposed the ban until December 10, but the measure has now been prolonged amid ongoing concerns over political tensions and potential unrest.
The extension follows an earlier order issued on December 4, 2025, when Section 144 was enforced from December 4 to December 10 to curb all public gatherings across the city.
Officials said the latest decision was made to pre-empt possible attempts by miscreants to damage public or private property during an increasingly volatile political climate.
The heightened alert comes as the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) prepares for nationwide protests against the continued imprisonment of its founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, held at Adiala Jail for the past two years.
The party is reportedly planning to stage its main demonstration outside the jail, raising fears of confrontation and disorder.
Authorities say the enforcement of Section 144 is a preventive step aimed at safeguarding citizens, maintaining public order, and averting any escalation during the protest period. Police and other law enforcement agencies have been instructed to strictly implement the ban, with officials warning that violators will face legal action.
