ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Navy Ship YAMAMA, while on a Regional Maritime Security Patrol (RMSP) in the Arabian Sea, successfully intercepted 1,500 kilograms of hashish, valued at around 3 million US dollars, the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed. The operation highlights the Navy’s continued efforts to curb illicit activities at sea.

According to the ISPR, the interdiction underscores the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to maintaining security in the maritime domain. “Such operations demonstrate our robust vigilance and proactive presence in safeguarding national maritime interests,” the statement added.

The Navy routinely undertakes RMSP missions to secure Pakistan’s sea routes and protect trade corridors. These patrols also strengthen collaboration with regional and international maritime partners to ensure a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders in the Arabian Sea.

Earlier this year, in October, another Pakistani naval ship seized narcotics worth over $972 million from sailing vessels in the same region. The operation involved the interception of two dhows within 48 hours, which were found carrying crystal methamphetamine and small quantities of cocaine.

The Combined Maritime Force (CMF), a partnership of 47 countries’ navies that patrols more than 3 million square miles, lauded the operation as one of the most successful narcotics seizures under its taskforce. Commodore Fahad Aljoiad of the Royal Saudi Naval Forces, leading the CMF taskforce, commended the Pakistani Navy for its role in disrupting major drug smuggling networks.

The US Central Command also congratulated the CMF on X, emphasizing the importance of such operations in securing the world’s busiest shipping lanes and preventing the flow of drugs and weapons. The Pakistan Navy continues to assert its capability in maritime security and anti-smuggling operations, reinforcing its strategic role in regional stability.
