Punjab Traffic Police has created a new history of collecting the highest number of fines imposed on traffic violations in a single day. According to statistics from the Punjab Traffic Police, on the very first day of the implementation of the new fine rates, the traffic police issued challans worth Rs 131.9 million. 40,636 challans were issued for violating traffic rules across Punjab, including Lahore. A total of 15,428 violators were detained in various police stations, while 4,388 cases were registered. Following the amendments to the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 44,713 challans have been issued so far, with fines amounting to Rs 495.2 million, and 63,000 vehicles have been impounded at police stations. Traffic officials say that the software in the system has been updated to increase the number of fines since December 2. Meanwhile, traffic police have been stopped from registering cases against minors across Punjab.
