Red Dead Redemption is now available on Netflix’s gaming catalog as of Tuesday, marking the first official release of the game on iOS and Android devices. The mobile version is accessible exclusively to Netflix subscribers and features touch-screen controls for shooting and navigation, offering a single-player campaign experience online. However, the game does not include a multiplayer mode.

Originally launched by Rockstar Games in 2010, Red Dead Redemption is set in the Wild West of 1911 and follows former outlaw John Marston on his quest to reunite with his family. The mobile release also includes the standalone expansion pack, Undead Nightmare, in which Marston faces a zombie outbreak. This addition brings a full franchise experience to mobile platforms for the first time.
Netflix’s decision to add Red Dead Redemption is part of its broader gaming strategy. The company had previously struggled to engage subscribers, with less than 1% of users accessing its games. However, 2024 saw a significant turnaround, with download estimates rising 180% year-over-year, signaling growing interest in Netflix’s gaming offerings.
Red Dead Redemption is one of Rockstar’s most popular franchises, second only to Grand Theft Auto, and the mobile release could revive interest in the series. The launch follows Netflix’s rollout of games on smart TVs in October, which allows subscribers to use their phones as controllers for party titles like Boggle Party, LEGO Party!, and Pictionary.

Subscribers should note that while Netflix recently added Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy to its mobile library, GTA: San Andreas will be leaving the service on December 12th. The arrival of Red Dead Redemption adds a major title to Netflix Games, expanding its appeal to both longtime fans and new mobile players.
