Pakistan rallies to win IBSF Snooker World Cup Team Championship

DOHA: Pakistan clinched the IBSF Snooker World Cup Team Championship on Sunday after a thrilling comeback against Hong Kong China 2. Trailing 2-1 in a best-of-five frames final, the Pakistani duo of former world champion Muhammad Asif and Asjad Iqbal produced two century breaks to secure a 3-2 victory.

Hong Kong started strong, with Chau Hon Man defeating Asjad Iqbal 94–0, aided by an 85 break, putting Pakistan under early pressure. Pakistan quickly responded in the second singles frame, as Asif crafted a brilliant 82 break to defeat Nansen Wan 95–17, leveling the contest.

The doubles frame swung back in Hong Kong’s favour, as they recorded an 84–41 win to take a 2–1 lead. Facing elimination, Pakistan’s pair entered the reverse singles with determination, starting with Asif delivering a flawless 100 break to overcome Chau Hon Man 100–36, tying the match at 2-2.

The championship hinged on the final frame, where Asjad Iqbal rose to the occasion. He compiled a stunning 104 break, defeating Nansen Wan 104–0 to complete Pakistan’s remarkable comeback. The frame scores read: 0–94 (85), 95–17 (82), 41–84, 100–36 (100), and 104–0 (104).

This victory adds another accolade to Muhammad Asif’s illustrious career. It marks his seventh world title, including three team world championships, three individual world titles, and a World Masters crown. Pakistan’s win reflects the growing strength of the nation in international snooker and adds a new chapter to its sporting legacy.
