DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has expressed deep concern over the province’s worsening security situation, warning that southern districts have faced prolonged instability and that the current wave of terrorism has reached alarming levels.
Speaking to Dawn, he accused India and Israel of using Afghan soil to destabilise Pakistan, while highlighting the sacrifices of security personnel who continue to risk their lives daily. The governor listed Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, North and South Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak, and Kurram as areas that have remained tense for years.

He claimed that hostile intelligence networks are attempting to revive militant activities within Pakistan, contributing directly to the surge in terrorist incidents. Commenting on counterterrorism strategies, Kundi stressed that intelligence-based operations are the most effective approach under current circumstances, noting that full-scale military operations are neither advisable nor feasible.
He acknowledged the courage of provincial police but said they lack sufficient resources to confront well-armed militant groups. Governor Kundi also addressed political issues, stating that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa cannot afford confrontation with the federal government.

He urged that pending matters, including FATA merger-related financial shortfalls, be resolved through institutional dialogue, parliament, and the National Finance Commission Award meeting. He noted that peaceful protests are a democratic right, but damaging property or marching on Islamabad would serve no purpose.
On the development front, Kundi criticised the previous provincial administration for failing to deliver major projects in Dera Ismail Khan. He highlighted that the long-delayed Chashma Left Bank Canal project is moving forward, with tenders expected soon.
