
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice Yahya Afridi has summoned a full court to review the 27th Constitutional Amendment. The meeting will take place before Friday prayers. The decision follows letters from three senior Supreme Court judges urging a detailed review of the amendment clause by clause.
Justice Salahuddin Panhwar, in his letter, said the amendment could disrupt the balance of powers. He urged the court to act to protect the constitution and public trust. He added that history will remember those who defended constitutional integrity.

Justices Mansoor Ali Shah and Athar Minallah also wrote letters requesting the full court meeting. They highlighted potential threats to judicial independence and stressed the importance of timely deliberation. They emphasized the judiciary’s duty to uphold the law and maintain public confidence.
The 27th Amendment was approved by the National Assembly yesterday with 234 votes in favor and only 4 against. The Senate, under Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, passed additional clauses by a two-thirds majority. Some opposition senators, including JUI members, voted against it.
