Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said on Wednesday that there are no technical flaws in the 27th Constitutional Amendment Bill. He expressed confidence that the bill would be passed by the National Assembly today. Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, the minister said that if any clarification or minor change was required, it would be presented again in the Senate.
Tarar assured that all necessary legal requirements had been met. “There is no technical issue in the amendment,” he said. “We will get it passed by the National Assembly today.” He added that any ambiguity could be addressed later in the Senate. The minister explained that the power to propose amendments lies with the minister, and cabinet approval is not mandatory for such adjustments.

The 27th Amendment Bill was presented in the National Assembly yesterday after being approved by the Senate a day earlier. The session, chaired by Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, began with prayers for the late Senator Irfan Siddiqui of the Pakistan Muslim League (N). Later, Law Minister Tarar introduced the Constitution (Twenty-Seventh Amendment) Bill 2025, emphasizing that constitutional amendments are always made through consensus.
Tarar said that judicial appointments in many countries are handled through judicial commissions, adding that Pakistan follows a similar model. He recalled that during the 26th Amendment, political consensus had been achieved under the guidance of Maulana Fazlur Rehman, which helped the government move forward smoothly. “Amendments to the Constitution are always made with broad parliamentary support,” he added.

The law minister also spoke about Pakistan’s recent legal and constitutional achievements. He highlighted that Pakistan’s stance in a recent national legal case had been recognized globally. Tarar said that after consultations, a national hero was awarded the Field Marshal title, and it was deemed necessary to define the rank’s legal framework. He explained that the Field Marshal rank, a five-star military position, is recognized in several Commonwealth countries and remains a lifetime honor under the new amendment.
