The Sindh government has extended the enforcement of Section 144 across the province for another month. The Home Department issued a new notification confirming the extension. The order aims to maintain peace and prevent any law and order situation. Authorities believe this step will help control potential unrest and ensure public safety.
Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code empowers local administrations to ban gatherings of four or more people. It is used in situations where public peace may be at risk. Under this law, the government can restrict rallies, protests, or other public gatherings. The restriction is temporary but often extended when needed. It serves as a preventive measure to avoid disturbances before they happen.
Earlier, the Sindh Home Department had imposed Section 144 on October 12 for one month. That order was meant to ensure peace during sensitive times. As the previous term ended, the government decided to continue the restrictions. The new notification extends the ban starting from November 12. Officials said the move is necessary to maintain stability in the province.
The notification also states that the extension is issued under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898. It continues the previous directives without any major changes. The ban applies to all forms of public gatherings, rallies, and demonstrations. Violations of the order may result in legal action. The government urged citizens to cooperate with authorities during this period.
However, some citizens have expressed concerns over the prolonged restrictions. They argue that it limits their right to protest peacefully. Still, officials insist the extension is temporary and for public safety only. The government says normal activities will resume once the situation stabilizes. Until then, Sindh remains under strict implementation of Section 144.
