ISLAMABAD – The ruling coalition partners, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), on Monday reached a consensus on the draft of the 27th Constitutional Amendment after detailed consultations.
Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar announced that the draft had been finalized following mutual agreement, with minor revisions incorporated as suggested by both parties. He confirmed that the finalized draft has now been sent for printing, paving the way for its presentation in Parliament.

Earlier, reports indicated a deadlock between the two parties on two key points. However, Tarar dismissed such reports, stating that “Parliament is lively, and there is no deadlock. We have the required numbers for approval.” Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, when asked about the timing of the vote, remarked, “You’ll know when the voting takes place.”
Despite the government’s confidence, several political parties have expressed opposition to the proposed amendment. The National Party (Balochistan) said it undermines the Constitution’s spirit, while Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) and Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) also rejected it. Additionally, senior lawyer Faisal Siddiqi wrote to the Chief Justice of Pakistan, urging the formation of a full court to review the amendment.
