Minister of State for Interior Senator Talal Chaudhry on Friday warned that stern action would be taken against individuals involved in making or circulating false and fabricated videos on social media aimed at maligning the Islamabad Police.
Addressing a joint press conference alongside Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr. Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, the state minister said that misleading videos were being circulated online, falsely linking Islamabad Police to incidents involving citizens from Azad Kashmir.
“It is being alleged that our Kashmiri brothers and sisters who come to or reside in Islamabad are being mistreated by the police under the pretext of checking. These claims are baseless and malicious,” he stated.
Senator Talal Chaudhry said Islamabad Police have always demonstrated professionalism and integrity while carrying out duties that extend beyond maintaining law and order. “As the capital’s police, they shoulder additional responsibilities protecting the lives and property of citizens, ensuring security during international visits, and maintaining order during high-level meetings and conventions,” he added.
He emphasized that the Prime Minister and the Interior Minister would not tolerate any misconduct by the police, but also stressed that it was not possible for such incidents to occur without being noticed. “Most of these videos are old, incomplete, and manipulated. They are often overdubbed with fake voices and shared with sensational captions,” he said.
Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, who was part of a federal team holding talks in Azad Kashmir, clarified that reports claiming new contingents of Islamabad Police had been deployed there were entirely false. “These rumors are being spread by elements unhappy with the progress of our discussions and the resulting agreement, which benefits Kashmiris and strengthens Pakistan’s ties with Kashmir,” he said.
Senator Talal Chaudhry revealed that forensic analysis of the viral clips had confirmed manipulation. “The videos have been doctored voices are fake, and footage from unrelated locations is being presented as if it involves Islamabad Police,” he said, adding that spreading such misinformation was a serious offense.
He appealed to citizens, especially social media users, to refrain from forwarding or sharing unverified content. “Those who create or share such material are equally responsible and complicit in spreading falsehoods. This is not just unethical but also an illegal act and against our religious values,” he remarked.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the minister said Islamabad Police would continue to protect the dignity, safety, and property of all residents, including Kashmiris living in the capital. “Islamabad is home to our Kashmiri brothers and sisters, and their honor and respect are our collective responsibility,” he said.
Senator Talal Chaudhry concluded by urging the public to verify information before sharing it online. “Do not believe or spread fabricated content. Islamabad Police and the government remain steadfast in ensuring the security and respect of every citizen,” he said.
