Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has resumed normal flight operations following several days of disruptions caused by technical faults, maintenance delays, and staff shortages. The airline’s engineering and operations teams worked around the clock to fix grounded aircraft and reorganize flight schedules. Officials confirmed that most flights have now returned to their planned schedules, with priority given to passenger convenience and safety. The management praised its technical crew for their “tireless efforts” in ensuring aircraft airworthiness and restoring confidence in the airline’s operations.
PIA faced a series of cancellations and delays earlier this week as several aircraft were taken out of service for maintenance. One aircraft, registered as AP-BMX and operating flight PK-308 between Karachi and Islamabad, was grounded due to a defect in Engine No. 1’s exhaust cone. This resulted in the cancellation of multiple routes, including PK-308/309 and PK-451/452, affecting hundreds of passengers. Similarly, flight PK-369 from Islamabad to Karachi was canceled on Thursday evening, while the Islamabad–Skardu round-trip service was also suspended.

Other international routes faced severe delays due to ongoing maintenance and shortage of technical staff. Flights such as PK-287 (Islamabad–Doha), PK-286 (Doha–Peshawar), and PK-217/262 (Peshawar–Abu Dhabi–Islamabad) were impacted, along with the Dubai–Sialkot flight that was grounded in Dubai because of a brake system malfunction. The Society of Aircraft Engineers of Pakistan (SEAP) reaffirmed that maintenance operations always prioritize flight safety, even if that means operational delays. The group emphasized that airworthiness standards remain the top priority across all maintenance activities.
After intensive coordination and revised scheduling, several major flights departed successfully. These included PK-783 from Karachi to Toronto carrying 104 passengers and PK-701 from Islamabad to Manchester with 329 passengers. However, some departures were delayed, including PK-747 (Lahore–Medina) by 14 hours, PK-761 (Karachi–Jeddah) by 12 hours, and PK-741 (Islamabad–Medina) by 6 hours. Flights to Dubai, Dammam, and Riyadh also faced delays ranging from 7 to 9 hours, while five flights were canceled entirely due to load adjustments, with passengers rebooked on alternate services.
PIA confirmed that its operations are now fully restored and functioning normally. The airline stated that ongoing efforts are focused on ensuring the availability of technical staff and essential spare parts to avoid future disruptions. It also announced plans to strengthen fleet planning, scheduling, and maintenance coordination. “Passenger convenience will always remain our highest priority,” the airline said, emphasizing that consistent operational reliability is crucial to maintaining public trust in Pakistan’s national carrier.
