LOS ANGELES – American singer and actress Taylor Momsen has revealed that she kept her decision to leave the hit teen drama Gossip Girl a secret from her co-stars.
Speaking on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast, the 32-year-old star, who portrayed the scheming Georgina Sparks in the first four seasons, opened up about her abrupt exit from the show.
“I kind of just Irish-dipped. I just wasn’t on the script the next week,” Momsen shared, admitting that she didn’t inform anyone on set that her character was being written out midway through Season 4.
The Spy School actress explained that she wanted to pursue her passion for music, which ultimately led her to leave acting behind. “They all knew I was making music. They all knew I had a band,” she said, referring to her rock group The Pretty Reckless. “I would play them stuff because I was working on the first record while I was on the show… but I don’t think anyone knew how serious I was at that stage.”
Momsen said that while the choice to focus on music was easy, getting released from her television contract proved more challenging. “It was an easy decision for me, but to actually get outta a contract was not easy,” she admitted.
Momsen starred alongside Leighton Meester, Blake Lively, Kelly Rutherford, Michelle Trachtenberg, Kristen Bell, and Sebastian Stan in Gossip Girl, which originally aired from 2007 to 2012.
