LAHORE — The Lahore Anti-Corruption Court on Thursday accepted former Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi’s request to be exempted from appearing in the Punjab Assembly illegal recruitment case.
Presiding Judge Javed Iqbal Warraich adjourned the proceedings until November 27, summoning Elahi along with co-accused for the next hearing. Elahi’s lawyer submitted a medical report supporting the exemption, while other accused, including Muhammad Khan Bhatti, appeared before the court.

Separately, the Lahore High Court (LHC) recently cancelled FIR No. 42/24 in an alleged kick-back case involving Elahi. The FIR, registered on December 28, 2024, at the Anti-Corruption Headquarters in Gujranwala, concerned the “Gujrat to Lakhuwal Old GT Road” development project. The court ruled that the second FIR duplicated earlier cases and violated legal principles, including double jeopardy.
Justice Amjad Rafiq noted that charges in the new FIR overlapped with prior proceedings before the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and that offences related to a single transaction should be consolidated in one FIR. The court allowed that if new evidence emerges, relevant sections could be added to the already-filed FIR.
