ISLAMABAD — Candidates backed by the government won three out of five available seats in the Islamabad Bar Council elections, according to unofficial results announced on Saturday. The Hamid Khan group secured one seat, while an independent candidate claimed the remaining position.
As per the unofficial tally, Abdul Rehman Har Bajwa led the polls with 1,369 votes, followed by Raja Aleem Abbasi with 1,351 votes, Chaudhry Hafeezullah Yaqoob with 1,295 votes, Mohammad Zafar Khokhar with 1,288 votes, and Asif Irfan with 1,126 votes. The three government-backed candidates — Bajwa, Abbasi, and Irfan — were declared successful.

Supporters of the winning candidates celebrated the victory with drumbeats, slogan chanting, and distribution of sweets at the Judicial Complex, where the polling took place. Despite intense competition, the election process remained peaceful with strict security arrangements ensuring smooth proceedings.
A total of 21 candidates contested the polls, with 20 judges serving as returning officers to ensure transparency. The elections are viewed as a key reflection of political alignments within the legal community and are often seen as a barometer of broader trends in national legal politics.
