Hours after the press conference of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) director general, terrorists stormed the local police training school in Dera Ismail Khan and turned it into a battlefield. Perhaps they wanted to retaliate against the presser with violent actions.
The attackers came with guns, grenades and a vehicle full of explosives. Their plan was to cause fear and destruction, but the police stopped them with great courage. The fight lasted for almost five hours.
Police and security forces fought together and did not let the terrorists enter the main area. Six policemen, including young trainees, were martyred while defending their post. Thirteen others were injured, along with a mosque imam who was killed while leading prayers. The terrorists also tried to burn a nearby NADRA office before they were all killed.
The ISPR said that the attack was an example of ‘Indian-sponsored terrorism’ as the terrorists want to spread fear. They failed because of the bravery of our police and forces.
All five attackers were killed in the operation. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General Zulfiqar Hameed praised his force for their courage. He said the KP Police have once again proved that they are standing strong on the frontline against terrorism.
In recent months, attacks on police have increased in KP, especially in places like Bannu, Peshawar, and Lakki Marwat. The police remain the main target because they are fighting the militants directly. The attack shows that terrorism is still a big challenge for the government as well as the public.
However, it also demonstrates that the country’s defenders are brave and willing to protect the people at any cost. The six policemen who gave their lives are heroes – their sacrifice should remind everyone that peace needs both strength and unity. *
