Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is reviewing Salman Ali Agha’s role as T20I captain. Though selectors and coach support him, concerns about his performance have risen. The discussions started after Pakistan’s three losses to India in the Asia Cup. His batting was weak, scoring only 72 runs in seven matches. Officials also questioned some of his tactical decisions during the final.
Salman has led Pakistan in 30 T20I matches. The team won 17 games but lost 13 under his leadership. He scored 557 runs, including four half-centuries, during this period. Selectors compared him to India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, who also struggled at the Asia Cup. They argue that leadership and consistency take time to develop.

Meanwhile, the PCB considered returning captaincy to Shaheen Afridi. However, selectors and coach Mike Hesson opposed this idea. They also resisted bringing back Babar Azam to the T20 squad. Their focus remains on giving more chances to younger players for future success.
Pakistan won the Tri-Nation Series in Sharjah before the Asia Cup. The team now prepares for a three-match T20 series against South Africa starting October 28. This series will be a key test for Salman and the team’s strategies.
With the T20 World Cup starting in February 2026, PCB must decide soon on captaincy. The board hopes stable leadership will boost team performance in the big tournament. Fans await the official decision as Pakistan aims for T20 success.
