The upcoming Asian Cup Qualifier between Pakistan and Afghanistan is now in doubt due to visa delays for the Afghan team. According to official rules, Afghanistan’s football team was expected to arrive in Islamabad by October 7. However, delays in visa processing have disrupted their travel schedule, leaving the match in uncertainty just days before kickoff.
Sources say the Afghan players applied for visas at the Pakistani embassy in Kabul between September 25 and 27. But due to an internet blackout in Kabul during that period, communication and coordination were significantly delayed. As a result, Pakistan’s football authorities received the required visa reference numbers much later than expected, complicating further arrangements.

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) immediately requested fast-track processing from the relevant departments once it received the necessary details. PFF officials remain hopeful that visas will be granted in time for the match. They stressed that any further delays could jeopardize the game scheduled for October 9 in Islamabad.
Acting PFF Secretary Shahid Khokhar stated that efforts are ongoing to ensure the Afghan team receives their visas promptly. He added that the match is important not only for qualification but also for regional sports diplomacy. Both countries view the fixture as a step toward improving sporting ties and mutual cooperation.
While fans and players eagerly await confirmation, the situation remains tense. The fate of the match now depends on timely visa approval. Officials hope that coordination between the two nations will save the fixture and allow the teams to compete as planned.
